The World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2022 edition has already begun and has been running all guns blazing at Ballys and Paris Las Vegas. However, in rather unfortunate news, Doyle Brunson fans will be disappointed as they won’t be able to see this poker legend grinding at this year’s edition anytime soon
The 10-time WSOP bracelet winner will not be seen competing anytime soon at this year’s edition of the series due to COVID-19 concerns. Brunson shared the following tweet that left his fans heartbroken.
looks like covid is everywhere at the WSOP. I’m gonna have to miss some tournaments I wanted to play but there are 2 unvaccinated in my house.

It’s no secret now that the virus has been rapidly spreading around the WSOP 2022 venue over the past few days. Experts also suggest the possibility of the current strain of the virus spreading faster than the earlier strains. Also, it is not surprising to see the virus spread due to the poker players interacting with each other in close proximity for long durations. The breakout and spread were quite expected.
Recently, 16-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth tweeted a video clip that shows him testing positive for COVID-19.

However, the organisers have not yet cancelled any of the events happening at the WSOP. Brunson will be avoiding the series due to concerns for his wife back home. He’d rather skip the WSOP than risk infecting Louise Brunson, whom he’s been married to for the past 60 years. Doyle’s wife and Poker Hall of Famer Todd Brunson’s mother has had some health issues in the past and her conditions make her vulnerable to the virus. But, if the COVID-19 spread is brought under control, the poker maestro may return for a few events, states pokernews.com.
