Alexandra Botez Defeats Bill Perkins in Choker Cup Semi-Final

The brilliance of Chess and skill in Poker released in one application last November, creating a buzz with the launch of Choker. This is simply a game played on a mobile app featuring the betting action of poker that requires chess mastery and flair to win at showdown. And the inaugural Choker Cup will decide who is the best at the mixed format strategy game.

Coming to the rules of Choker, from a pack of 44 cards, players are dealt 5 cards with a chess piece depicted on each card. That deck includes 4 queens, 8 rooks, 8 bishops, 8 knights, and 16 pawns. The betting rounds occur after 2, 4 and 5 cards are dealt. If the hand goes to showdown, the players take to the chessboard, where each starts with a king and a lone pawn. Just like any heads-up tournament, a player wins a Choker match by taking away their opponent’s chips.

The tournament began on 7 May and the eventual champion will emerge on 25 June. And the one to have already booked a seat to the finale is Canada-based player and chess streamer Alexandra Botez who defeated American hedge fund manager Bill Perkins in their semi-final battle on 11 June; she won via 3-0 sweep. Having dramatically defeated Matt Staples in the previous round by a 3-2 margin, Perkins faced a severe test against Botez. The game was live streamed with commentary by Jeff Gross and Chess International Master Malcolm Pein.

The fans will now be waiting for another session between chess player Eric Rosen and Botex who will compete in the final of the Challengers Choker Cup on Thursday, 18 June. The ultimate winner will have to face the chess Grandmaster and Choker brand ambassador Hikaru Nakamura.
