WTF Is Doug Polk Up To?

Doug Polk has been picking some fights on the internet (read Twitter) lately with several poker pros. This time around it was none other than the 16-time World Series Of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth. A few days ago, Hellmuth shared a poll on Twitter asking users if he should play a $300,000 buy-in event with Polk and Eric Persson or relax on the weekend. Polk replied to his tweet saying he was not available. Yesterday, Polk posted a controversial tweet saying ‘Hellmuth is not the best player in the world’ because apparently, Hellmuth was losing in tough lineups. 

Just got to the all in pod a few weeks back where they talk about poker. Few points:

– Hellmuth is not the best player in the world (he's losing in tough lineups)

– GTO can't be "exploited" and it doesn't cause you to make mistakes

– HUD's aren't real time solvers

The tweet received a lot of flak from several users as many of them came out in support of the ‘Poker Brat.’ Some of them even reminded Polk that Hellmuth has won 16 WSOP bracelets so far which was a remarkable feat. 

No respect for @phil_hellmuth , let me know when someone else wins 16 bracelets. People say the same thing about @TomBrady

Phil may not be the best poker player, but he is the most consistent and successful poker tournament player, 16 bracelets over decades is undeniable.

Hellmuth took the responsibility to defend himself by tweeting a befitting reply to Polk on his personal handle. He posted a thread of three tweets to address each point made by the three-time WSOP bracelet winner calling him out with the hashtag – #FakeNewsDoug.

Following the backlash and realizing his false allegations, the UpswingPoker founder posted an apology on his Twitter handle earlier today.

It has come to my attention that the other day when I said @phil_hellmuth was not winning in tough lineups, that he actually won 28 times in a row in playing mixed games during 2012-2020 with Eli Elezra.

Needless to say I now apologize for my now glaringly incorrect allegations.

Polk has been quite vocal about his support for Garret Adelstein in the ongoing Garret Adelstein – Robbi Lew scandal. Polk went on to accuse Lew of cheating with serious allegations such as having a cheating device in her pants among other absurd views. After he issued an apology to Hellmuth, the Twitterati were quick in pointing out the matter and connecting the dots. Users claimed that the incident proves that one should not take Polk seriously. 

It has come to my attention that I shouldn’t take anything seriously from a person who spent 60 hours calling a shadow on someone’s thigh a device.

Earlier, Daniel Negreanu had also lashed out at Polk for his accusations on Lew. Well, looks like Polk is desperately trying to make his voice heard and in the process, failing terribly at it.
