WSOP Online 2024 Main Event Has Biggest Prize Pool in Online Poker

Ever since GGPoker took over the WSOP brand, there has been talk of it becoming bigger and better. And here’s the proof—the 2024 WSOP $5000 Online Main Event carried an advertised guarantee of $25 Million. It drew 6,146 total entries, and the prize pool increased to a whopping and record-breaking $29.1 Million.

These numbers are higher than last year’s WSOP Online Main Event when the prize pool was $28.6 Million, and the number of entries was 6,023. The total number of Day 1 Flights for the event was 17, and they were spread throughout the whole month. On the final Saturday, the tournament had 4,645 entries, and Sunday’s flight added another 684 entries. Monday saw an addition of 817, and all that went on to create this gigantic prize pool. The $5K Main Event stopped yesterday at the final table, with the top prize being an eye-watering $4,021,012. The winner would also take home a WSOP bracelet.

It remains to be seen who ships this event and the staggering amount of cash. WSOP Online has been on a record-breaking spree for the past few years. In 2023, the WSOP Online Main Event again set a record by drawing 6023 entrants who participated in 24 Day 1 flights. The incredible number of entrants saw the prize pool swell to $28,609,250, only for the number to be beaten in 2024’s Main Event. Can this rise in popularity of the WSOP Online Main Event continue in 2025 too?!

That 2023 number surpassed the 2020 record, when 5802 entries swarmed in, creating a prize pool of $27,559,500. That year, GG Poker created an official Guinness World Record for the largest prize pool for a single online poker tournament, adding a lot more prestige to the series. The Main Event was the end game of almost 250,000 entries and boasted a $25 million GTD. 

In 2022, Espen Jorstad of Norway shipped the live WSOP Main Event and brought home $10,000,000. In 2023, Daniel Weinman of America brought home $12,00,000 out of a total prize pool of $93,399,900 from the ME. With this staggering amount at stake, there’s every possibility that online poker will become as big and popular a market as live poker.

Online poker is much more lucrative as a competitor sport than live ones, as players do not need to travel and stay in different venues to play their favourite game. With technology at their beck and call, poker sites and apps have created a safe and satisfying experience for avid poker players.

The poker market is growing in numbers and becoming one of the most popular real-money games worldwide. With some companies now even considering gaming licences in the cash-rich Emirates, fans can anticipate the golden era of poker right around the corner.
