With World Series Of Poker (WSOP) 2023 Main Event registering record-breaking 10,043 entries, the prize pool now stands at $93,399,900. The winner will get a pay cheque of $12,100,000 with the runner-up grabbing $6,500,000 in prize money.
But these are impressive figures (not to forget these numbers have shattered previous ME records), so why is there an uproar about the ME payouts? Let us explain.
Poker players commented on WSOP 2023 ME payouts and called it stingy. Many users, including Mike Matusow, thrashed the payout structure. Folks believed that the 9th place should have $1 Million as its payout.
Matusow wrote, “Congrats @wsop you broke the record and don’t give everyone who makes final table 1m? What a disgrace of payout structure 700k for 10th? Common @wsop you can do better ! #WSOPMainEvent. (sic)

Another tweet of Matusow read, “A smart guy exploiting the absolute disgrace the @wsop has made a mockery of the main event by allowing people to sign up with 50bb when more then half field is out! #bravo #disgrace if he can double twice he gets to play 5 levels to cash! The main event isn’t a championship event anymore, it’s a big money grab! Far cry from Jack Binions rake free main event to close out the Wsop! #WSOPMainEvent.” (sic)

Users commented how there is nothing special left in the WSOP event and that the minimum pay on the final table should be $1 Million. Another Twitter user called the pay jump from $6 Million to $12.1 Million ridiculous.
Businessman and poker pro, Tex Barch wrote the following in his post, “The casino finishes 2nd place in every wsop event. Hijacking in broad daylight. This and terrible payout structure are big reason i quit.” (sic)

Allen Cunningham, the five-time WSOP bracelet winner wrote, “This 1st is not the result of a formula. The previous biggest ever was $12 million for first, so they had to go $12.1 for this. However the 2006 Main Event paid at least $1 million all the way to 12th.” (sic)

This isn’t the first time you’ve heard this Twitter, but what’s stopping them from just paying $1million to the top 93 places?
— Allen Cunningham (@AllenCunningham) July 9, 2023
C’mon @WSOP… these payouts are amateurish. Absolute nonsense to do this.
The players play with an expectation that you will follow a formula and not use OUR MONEY for your promotional purposes. pic.twitter.com/7S1OweJPgG

Interestingly, Twitterati also brought up the fact, WSOP is not going to listen to people who are not happy about the ME payout structure, as it’s above the pay grade.
Well said mr matusow. People should only have 10bigs. But this is above our paygrade…
