WSOP 2023 PLO HR: A Spine-Chilling Wait For The River Card Turns Into A $2,294,756 Payday

Ka Kwan Lau was heads-up with Sergio Martinez Gonzalez in the Event #57: $25,000 Pot-Limit Omaha (PLO) High Roller. Both Spanish speaking rivals locked horns on the final hand which saw Lau (AKQT) call Gonzalez’ all-in call with AA74. When blinds were at 250K/500K, Gonzalez raised $1.5 Million from the big blind spot and Lau pushed a 3-bet in the form of $4.5 Million.

Lau’s rival thought for a bit and threw in a 4-bet of $14 Million whilst keeping faith in his aces. Lau 5-bet to $14.5 Million and Gonzalez went all-in. Both players got up from their seats and waited for the dealer to fan out the board. The heads-up rivals looked curious as hell as they waited to see what the community cards would bring.

But what was most anxiety causing was to see if Lau hits any one of his six outs, because if Lau didn’t hit that Jack, then his unfinished business of winning a WSOP would remain unfulfilled for some more time, and the hunt would continue. The flop came, 9 6 T

This kept Gonzalez ahead. The turn brought 9 which gave Lau’s opponent two pairs (AA, 99), but the river presented Jack of spades which sealed the deal for Lau as he took down the $25K PLO High Roller title at WSOP 2023, beating Gonzalez with a bone-chilling river card.

This PLO High Roller event had 449 entries which generated a prize pool of $10,551,500. The final table of this event also had Jeremy Ausmus. This American pro recently shipped an online WSOP event which took his bracelet tally to six. He now joins the rank of Daniel Negreanu who have six WSOP bracelets. Ausmus took home a pay cheque of $209,392 for his eight place finish. Take a look below at the final table results.
