WSOP 2023: Doug Polk Gets Into A Car Accident On His Way To Main Event Day 1A


The most anticipated poker tournament in the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) kicked off. As Day 1A of Event #76: $10,000 WSOP Main Event ended there news of one of the pros getting into an accident ahead of the game at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas. The flight 1A drew 1080 entries and now only 721 survivors will progress ahead. Ahead of Day 1A at WSOP 2023, Doug Polk found himself hogging the limelight; the American poker pro got into a car accident on Monday morning. Talk about bad timing and Polk will take the cake as his accident led to his reaching the game late.

Speaking to PokerNews, Polk revealed how he was on his way to the Horseshoe and had stopped at an intersection. The Upswing Poker founder added how he turned on some music and was upbeat about Main Event Day 1A when his car was hit from behind by another car.

The 34-year-old had to face a run of bad luck even before he began playing on the day. He recalled how his body just lurched forward, and he was in shock. After getting out of the car, Polk shared how his vehicle didn’t actually do too badly while the front of the other car was pretty wrecked, with the driver being shaken up.

Later on, everything was settled with all steps and proper precautions taken with insurance information shared, and Polk headed to the WSOP venue. After getting settled into his seat, he availed the services of the tableside massage.

Speaking about the action on the table, Polk got things off to a rocky star. After that, the three-time WSOP bracelet winner fared well. So far, he has not only managed to make it past Day 1A but also made it in the top 10 chip counts.

The American poker pro sits at 281,900 chips against his name and is slotted fourth in the list of top survivors. Israel’s Yehuda Dayan is leading the way with a monstrous stack of 389,900 chips, with Shota Nakanishi (360,100) also amongst the big stacks. Four former Main Event winners played Day 1A and all of them found a bag for Day 2. Who are these champions? They are Joe Cada (2009), Martin Jacobson (2014), Damian Salas (2020) and Jamie Gold (2006).

Apart from that, Poker Hall of Fame inductees like John Hennigan and Billy Baxter will grind in Day 2, Dominik Nitsche, Shaun Deeb, Jim McManus, accused poker cheater, Jake Schindler, David Peters, and Sean Winter will also return for Day 2 on 7th July.
