A post shared by PokerNews (@pokernews)

The Norwegian chess grandmaster took to his Twitter handle and shared that he is heading to Las Vegas and that he will be grinding in the WSOP 2022 Main Event.

Carlsen has played poker tournaments in the past as well. In an interview, Carlsen added, “It will be interesting as a once-in-a-life-time-experience. To play the World [Poker] Championship,” This year in April, Carlsen finished in the 25th spot while grinding in the Norwegian Poker Championship among 1,050 players and cashed $5,681.

There is no record of this world champion playing in WSOP in the past. Hence, it would be great to see this grandmaster grind at the WSOP 2022 Main Event whether or not Carlsen’s chess talent aids him in poker, it is without a doubt true that poker as a skill game attracts talent from across the world.  This takes us to the debate of poker vs. chess and which is a better skill game?

What does chess have that poker doesn’t?

  • Chess is a globally recognized sport, whose prominence nobody would dare debate. However, in the case of poker, it isn’t as widely recognized as a game of skill.
  • There is variance in chess, but its impact is limited and, soon enough, the better player takes the win while in poker, variance plays a much more important role.

Finally, to add to what PokerNews stated in its Instagram post, how playing chess helps in poker and vice-versa, more chess players could participate in poker tournaments and see how their chess skills come into play on a poker table. As for poker helping chess players in their board game, the impact is not yet determined.
