WSOP 2021: Robert Cowen, Jason Wheeler and Adrian Mateos Win Gold Bracelets


The World Series Of Poker (WSOP) Event #80: $3,000 6-Handed Pot-Limit Omaha was an intense grind. Day 3 saw a field of 496 players, and Robert Cowen clinched the top spot  for a prize money of $280,916. Talking about the victory, Cowen said, “It’s not quite sunk in yet. It’s a big load off,” he said. “I have been wanting one of these (WSOP bracelet) for 15 years after watching the main and stuff on ESPN”. 

One of the key hands that helped Cowen clinch the bracelet was down to just one card. After drawing a king against Robert Emmerson, he clinched the bracelet. Emmerson took home $173,613 in prize money. Cowen started out as a PLO cash game player.  In the 2021 WSOP, the PLO specialist finished three-times in the top 70. Cowen also finished in the 39th place in the WSOP 2021 Main Event. 

Event #81 : $800 NLH Deepstack 

Jason Wheeler was crowned the $800 NLH Deepstack winner. This poker player,  won his first WSOP bracelet. The American player rose to the top after defeating a 1,921 player field and played  a heads-up game against Julian Velasquez. Wheeler added $202,274 to his bankroll. The runner-up in this event was Julian Velasquez from Columbia who took home a prize money of $126,252. 

Velasquez said, “This is my first time I got heads-up for a bracelet in 2009, and at the time I did not appreciate what it was because it was my first series. I have been working really hard and it feels good to play well.”

Event #82: $250,000 Super High Roller No-Limit Hold ’em

This event was shipped by Adrian Mateos. This was his fourth WSOP gold bracelet. This poker champion defeated Ben Heath in a heads-up play. With a sky high buy-in of $250,000 the event generated a prize pool of $8,217,000. Mateos laughed his way to the bank with $3,625,362. With this high roller win, Mateos collected his fourth WSOP gold bracelet and his sixth live cash in  WSOP 2021.
