Poker is booming in the country at the moment, with plenty of leagues, tournaments and series hosted regularly around the country. Online poker is something that takes place daily and many players are earning their living from this game now. Due to some legal barriers, the live poker scene has stayed slightly behind the online one.
However, this is also slowly changing, with plenty of live tournaments also being held in cities where they are permitted. The most recent series held was the Baadshah Live Tournament just last month. Goa is one of the major attractions for poker players from across the country and we’re all set for yet another massive series to come to this coastal state – World Poker Tour (WPT) India.
Live poker is the true test of one’s skills and it was a huge boost for the industry when WPT, one of the global leaders, decided to partner with Delta Corp-owned Adda52.com to bring their offerings to India. Last year was their first Indian series which was played on board the group’s biggest casino vessel, Deltin Royale in Goa, and we’re now days away from the start of the second edition.
Scheduled once again onboard the Deltin Royale between 13-19 November 2018, WPT India is set to be an exciting series, with several high value tournaments lined up. Part of the WPTDeepStacks Season V, the series will attract India’s top poker players who will be battling it out for a week.
The INR 55,000 Main Event is the highlight of the series, and this tournament will take place between 16-19 November, with three days of starting flights. Last year, it was Vikash Mantri who topped a field of 500+ entries to win the Main Event for a prize of over INR 60 lakh!
There are quite a few players who have already booked their tickets to Goa and are very excited to be a part of proceedings there. Gutshot decided to catch up with a few to get their views on the upcoming WPT India series. Popular pro Shravan Chhabria said, “I will be attending WPT India and I’m expecting a really huge turnout. With all the young guns expected, it’s going to be very competitive and a lot of fun.”
We also caught up with Meherzad Munsaf, another live poker enthusiast, “I’m excited to be at the WPT this year. I have big expectations in terms of the number of players to a larger setup, and I think it’s going to be a fun event for one week, where many poker players will be looking forward to showcasing their great skills and attributes. It’s going to be a tough competition with some great poker to be played. I wish all the players a great series and wish that every success be theirs. Every day is a new opportunity. You can build on yesterday’s success or put its failures behind and start over again. That’s the way life is, with a new game every day, and that’s the way poker is too.”
Another top player attending the upcoming series is Anant Purohit, who took part in the afore-mentioned Baadshah Live Series and has numerous online titles as well including a recently bagged Mega Stack title on Spartan. He said, “WPT is a big name for poker tournament series worldwide, and everyone is keeping an eye out on this schedule, since its entry to India last year. I have also been waiting for it and here it is. I’m very excited and eager to take part in the event, and also meet all my friends out there.”
The main man on the ground is Manish Adnani, Business Head – Poker Delta Corp Ltd., who was looking forward to providing players with yet another top live experience. “We are all prepped up and ready for WPT India. We expect the field size to be marginally bigger with a 20% increase in participation. The Omaha Event has been replaced with a 6-max Shoot Out which will add new flavour to the robust schedule. I’m looking forward to refining the experience and giving players an event to remember at Deltin Royale.”
The excitement is clearly building up as we inch closer to the series each day. As you can see, both players as well as the organizers are eager for the series to kick off and you can follow all major updates on this series right here on GutshotMagazine.com.
