Woman Arrested By Tripura Police For Online Betting Scam  

A woman was arrested by the Tripura Police’s Crime Branch unit for reportedly masterminding an online betting scam through an app called ‘Sports Fantasy 11.’ The woman identified as Anchal was quickly detained by police officers.

News reports cited police sources on how the accused reportedly cheated a significant number of clients who had wagered on the betting app. As per Public Prosecutor Biswajit Deb, the woman was produced before the West Tripura Session Court and was awarded five days police remand.

The case was first registered with the West Agartala Police Station and was transferred to the Crime Branch Unit after a preliminary investigation. A look-out notice was then promptly issued. As per police reports, the woman was detained on her way to Dubai. Police sources reportedly said, “We were tipped off that she was attempting to move from India due to several cases that were filed against her. She was then detained from the Amritsar airport and brought to Agartala on transit remand.”

The accused named Anchal was charged under section 420 of the Indian Penal Code for defrauding and looting money. Apart from this, the Crime Branch Unit also arrested a man named Vijay Pandit from Bihar. An FIR was lodged against Pandit at the Bodhjungnagar police station for reportedly scamming people via a UPI-based payment app.

According to police sources, several people lost huge sums of money owing to this scam. Additional Public Prosecutor Bidyut Sutradhar said, “He has been produced before the Court and sent to Jail Custody till 15th March.” Both of these cases were investigated by the Crime Branch Unit of Tripura Police.
