Story Time: When Nicolas Cage Won $20K In Roulette And Gave It Away

Nicolas Cage is a well-known name in the movie industry, starring in hit films like National Treasure, Face Off, and Con Air among many others. His performance in the 1995 movie ‘Leaving Las Vegas’ won him an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild Award. But this was not his only brush with the world of gambling, as he revealed in a recent interview with his friend Marilyn Manson.

While speaking to Manson for Interview Magazine, Cage told him that 30 years back when he was in the Bahamas, he was trying his luck at the casino table. “I was in the Bahamas, and I walked into a casino and felt like I had my mojo with me, like nothing could go wrong.” Cage, recounted. The game he chose to play was roulette and it looks like he was right about his mojo.

Story Time: When Nicolas Cage Won $20K In Roulette And Gave It Away

“I went in with $200, and I didn’t miss a number, so much so that even the lady spinning the wheel said, ‘Nothing sweeter than a repeater.’ In 20 minutes, I turned $200 into $20,000, so I went and found an orphanage in the Bahamas, met all the kids and the headmistress, and said, ‘This is for you.’ I put the 20 grand in her hand, walked away, and never gambled again because if I did, it would ruin the power of that moment.” Cage told Manson.

This seemed to be a defining moment for Nicolas Cage, who never gambled again after the experience left him humbled. Cage’s decision to walk away instead of continuing his game was a notable part of the experience, a wise choice that many fail to make when getting lucky at the table. Cage who currently lives in Las Vegas told Manson, “You can’t live in Vegas if you’re a gambler. I’ve seen it destroy people. Of all the addictions, I think it might be the worst.”

So, what’s the moral of the story? Our take is that its somewhere along the lines of…always know when to stop when gambling and it is never too late or early to do something nice with what we have.
