WATCH: Jason Koon Gets Emotional As He Accepts Ivan Leow Player Of The Year Award

Triton Poker King Jason Koon was awarded with the Ivan Leow Poker Player of the Year award in a formal award ceremony held yesterday at the ongoing Triton Poker Series London 2023.

In his winning speech, he first thanked his wife, appreciating her for sticking by him when he was broke. He spoke about how he was broke 10 years ago, and his wife has a real job. Going against all odds, she encouraged Koon to pursue his passion for poker. He described his journey of making a name for himself in the poker industry over the past 10 years as a “stellar ride”  from then to now.

He then remembered his friend and namesake Ivan Leow, who passed away unexpectedly last year at the age of 39 years. In his speech, he recalled how the two went skiing together, enjoyed good food, and how Ivan was a warm, friendly person. He described Leow as “one of the most beautiful persons”  he has met.

The Triton Tournament Series Ambassador then went on to describe how Triton has always been a special experience for him. He said, “Triton to me, from the very first game I played, was different. Probably because of the first hand dealt, you guys started handing out champagne glasses. And we were doing a champagne toast at noon in Macau and I was like, ‘Alright, This is different; this isn’t the Rio’.” (sic)

The Triton Poker Series had announced Koon as the official awardee of recognition, named after the co-founder of the series back in June 2023. He was chosen for the award after he claimed his seventh Triton Poker title. However, he was formally felicitated in London last night.
