Utsav Taneja takes down PS Sunday Special; she said yes!

MAGIC Sunday Special PKO – INR 20 Lakh GTD. If you are an active player in the online poker circuit, you will know that this is PokerStars India’s biggest weekly tournament offering, where the best talent in India comes together to battle it out in this bounty tournament each Sunday evening.

Yesterday’s PKO Event began at its usual time of 7pm and it came to an end at 3:19am this morning. With a number of pros in contention, it was a fantastic effort by Utsav Taneja aka ‘rannyOO6’ who outlasted a tough field on the night and finally managed to win a major title on PokerStars India.

Talking about his victory last night, he said, “Having had many deep runs in Sunday Special, I’m delighted to finally ship it as it is one of my favourite tournaments. Being a PKO tournament and so well structured, I play this event every Sunday. It’s great for me ahead of the INSCOOP feature series that starts today.” For those who know Taneja, they would know that she finally said yes!

We saw this coming as Taneja got really close last week, losing to Parikshit Dhall in heads-up of the same tournament. Yesterday’s Sunday PKO saw a total of 335 entries, each coughing up the INR 5,500 buy-in towards the event. 55 players eventually took home pay-checks with the min-cash set at INR 6,843 with cash prizes from the bounty prize pool being separate.

Some of the known names to run deep last night were Rubin Labroo aka ‘kornkid4’ (13th), Harsh Dembla aka ‘kakori kabab’ (9th), Ankit Wadhawan aka ‘b00mtr00p3r (6th) and Ashish Ahuja aka ‘Spewushhhiiii’ (5th). In heads-up too, Taneja faced Goonjan Mall aka ‘gmtesting.ind’ who is also one of the better players in the online circuit at the moment.

Eventually however, Taneja managed to get through and win his favourite tournament. He pocketed a total of INR 3,68,122 for this effort, which included INR 2,15,712 in tournament prize money and another massive amount of INR 1.52 Lakh from the bounty prize pool. Mall had to settle for around INR 2.2 Lakh for finishing second, which is still a pretty decent pay-out.
