US Pro Caught With 163 Kgs of Marijuana

Just a couple of weeks back, US poker pro Micah Raskin cashed out a prize of $6,399 at the WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open, Atlantic City. Now, the poker player finds himself in legal trouble with New York police authorities, for the possession of over 350 pounds (163 kgs) of marijuana.

Raskin, 49, was arrested late last week, as confirmed by police authorities, for the possession of drugs worth over $500,000 on the black market, and also for the possession of a loaded shotgun. A raid in Nassau County led to this arrest for drug and gun offences. It is said that Raskin possessed hash oils, drug paraphernalia and packaging materials, apart from the gun and drugs.

The raid is said to be one of the biggest drug busts in Nassau County history. “With this seizure of more than 350 pounds of marijuana and huge quantities of hash oils, this alleged dealer’s time living the high life selling drugs is over,” said Madeline Singas, Nassau County District Attorney.

The street value of marijuana is around $1,400 a pound, so you can imagine the amount of money that could’ve been earned through his drug dealings. Raskin had a best live cash of $320,231 and total career earnings of nearly $2 million. Makes you wonder whether he used drug money to sponsor his buy-ins to tournaments, doesn’t it?

Here’s a list of the charges placed on Raskin:

  • first-degree criminal possession of marijuana;
  • second-degree criminal possession of marijuana;
  • fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance;
  • third-degree criminal possession of a weapon;
  • and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Along with the drug products, the police have seized items such as a 2016 Range Rover, a 2016 Chevrolet Corvette, cash worth $140,000 and artwork believed to be worth more than $100,000. Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder called Raskin a ‘dangerous individual’, as selling drugs to the citizens of New York was placing them at risk.
