Unheard Stories: Aditya Wadhwani And Gayeti Singh Spill The Beans

Hello poker players, for our ‘Unheard stories’ series, this time we get you the tales from poker pro Aditya Wadhwani and wife Gayeti Singh. Wadhwani has been in the industry for more than a decade now and has contributed to the poker circuit extensively.
Through this conversation, we spoke with them about life, funny incidents that poker players face, family acceptance, and more.

You have been in the poker industry for a decade or so, has it affected you or changed the way in which you look at relationships?

Balance is key. There are ups and downs often in poker but I am used to working through problems rationally in poker as well as in my relationships.

As a content creator, how do you manage your time? For both family and the game?

By communicating when I need to prioritize one over the other. When it’s poker time my family respects the fact that I need to be entirely focused on the game. It’s clear that if I’m streaming or grinding then I’m very much at the office.

How did you tell your family and friends that you wanted to be a full-time poker player?

I’m very open with my family and they’ve always supported all my choices in life even at times when I’ve made questionable ones. So it never really was an issue of telling them. If they asked what I was up to, I just straight up told them.

Have you faced any funny or weird incident after you told your folks about playing poker?

My father asked me while I was in university why I never asked for any money. I told him because I was doing well playing poker on the side. But everything fell through when my landlord from London rung up and told my father that I had not paid rent. That’s when my father pointed out to me that I must manage my bankroll appropriately.

What do you think is the biggest hurdle when it came to acceptance from friends and family?

The lengthy working hours affected my social life. But none of them were against poker, and therefore they never had to accept anything. We have open and honest communications.

We spoke with Gayeti Singh, Aditya Wadhwani’s wife, and here’s what she has to say about the industry.

I’m lucky I’m married to someone who is able to follow his passion and love what they do. Aditya loves poker, be it doing well in a tournament, brainstorming, or developing for a poker-related idea. It’s inspiring to share your life with someone who is excited about what they do professionally. I also think that there’s a shared investment in the sport. I haven’t met most of Aditya’s friends from the industry, but it feels like I’ve known them for years because they’re such an integral part of his life both professionally and personally.

Are there any aspects of poker you personally find interesting?

I find various aspects of poker interesting. The probability and math, the use of strategy, the insight into human psychology, and also the ability to deal with unexpected outcomes. I don’t know poker very well, but over the years I’ve started to appreciate the skill, and hard work it takes to consistently perform well at the game.

Could you narrate any funny stories about your husband and poker?

There was one funny incident when Aditya was interviewing Bencb. I think he was a little nervous and he ended up referring to the colour of Bencb’s undergarment! He was mortified initially, but we had a good laugh over it and the clip made it to Aditya’s 2020 highlight reel.

We love the energy Aditya Wadhwani and his wife Gayeti Singh have. It is very important for poker players to be with folks who understand the hardships that they face. In this case, Wadhwani and Singh seem to be the perfect match. We wish the best of everything for the two and look forward to seeing Wadhwani grinding intensively on the felts and take home several titles.
