Triton Poker Series: Everything You Must Know


Triton Poker Series continues to be one of the most highly anticipated series in the international poker circuit. This super high roller series is considered as one of the top-tier poker series in the world, with the event witnessing some of the biggest names in the game mark their attendance.

The Triton Poker Series has made a name for itself since its inception in 2016. While many in the poker fraternity worldwide are aware of the event, did you know that the Triton Poker Series is actually an Asian brand? Let’s dig deep into its history as we look at everything you need to know about the Triton Poker Series.

Triton Poker Series History

Started by Malaysian businessman cum poker player Richard Yong alongside Paul Phua. The first edition of the Triton Poker Series was hosted in January 2016. It is also worth noting that the first-ever Triton Poker Series was known as the Cali Cup.

The first-ever Triton Poker Series saw Wai Kin Yong (founder Richard Yong’s son) pocket the Main Event title. Wai shipped the inaugural edition of the series, which took place in the Philippines. With 62 entries coming up in the first edition of the Triton Poker Series, Yong ended up emerging victorious and earning a cash prize worth $2,080,556.

Triton Poker Series 2017

The year 2017 saw three editions of the event being hosted. The first edition of 2017 took place in the Philippines again. The 3rd edition (the second of 2017) was hosted in Montenegro, with the final edition of 2017 being hosted Macau. The three editions saw names like Koray Aldemir, Manig Loeser and John Juanda shipping the Main Event.

Triton Poker Series 2018

Montenegro became a hotspot for the Triton Poker Series. The event was once again hosted at this location in 2018. Popular name from the international poker circuit Mikita Badziakouski won both the Main Events of the 2018 editions, pocketing $2,499,185 and $5,257,027, respectively.

Triton Poker Series 2019

2019 was a landmark year for the Triton Poker Series, with four editions of the tournament taking place that year. Montenegro held two different editions of the Triton Poker Series, which saw Bryn Kenney win the No-Limit Hold ’em (NLH) Main Event in Budva, Montenegro during May 2019. He not only pocketed $2,769,000 from the Main Event but also went on to win the HKD 500,000 No-Limit Hold ’em 6 Max to walk away with $1,432,264, just a few days before the Main Event.

Apart from Kenney, Rui Cao had a remarkable time in this edition. He won the Short Deck Main Event during the May 2019 series. The Main Event became a record-breaker for Triton Poker Series, with over 98 entries coming in. It also saw Rui Cao finally get his hands on the title after missing out on winning in 2018. He ended up pocketing $3,419,000.

The next Triton Poker Series took place in the UK with Wai Kin Yong shipping the Main Event. Junior Yong laid his hands on the title after getting the better of 130 people in the English capital and walking away with $2,591,695. Justin Bonomo won the Short Deck Main Event of this edition,  for a payday of $3,257,400 from 108 entries.

Triton Poker Series 2022

Triton Poker Series returned in 2022 after a two-year hiatus owing to the COVID-19 outbreak. The 2022 edition was hosted in Madrid upon its return with Stephen Chidwick winning his first-ever Triton Poker Series title. He nailed the Short Deck Main Event and became richer by $1,917,090. The NLHE Main Event of this edition was shipped by Henrik Hecklen from Denmark. He added $2,311,700 to his bankroll after this stupendous victory.

Triton Poker Series then made a stop at Cyprus. The Main Event hosted at this location was shipped by Thai player Punnat Punsri for a sum of $2,600,000. This $100,000 buy-in event had 99 entries. But Punsri beat Hong Kong’s Wayne Heung in the heads-up clash to nail the coveted Main Event title.
