Throwback to when the first woman won an open event at the WSOP!

When Barbara Enright started playing poker at home from the age of 4, little did she know that she would hold an irreplaceable place in the history of poker! Yes, a woman you must look upto indeed!

An American professional poker player, Barbara is also a motivational speaker, and Editor-in-Chief of Woman Poker Player magazine. She also holds the position of the Ambassador of Poker League of Nations, the world’s largest women’s poker organization. Up till now, she has won three bracelets at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) and has made it to the US$10,000 No-Limit Hold’em Main Event final table.

She developed fondness for the game at a very early age when she started playing against her sibling. As a multi talented lady, she tried her hand at almost everything by working as a hairstylist, bartender, cocktail waitress and simultaneously playing poker too. When Enright started earning a huge sum by just playing poker, she opted to play full time. Currently, her total live earnings are $1,729,181 and she holds the 1,105th position in the all time money list.

At present, women make up around 5% of the field in all the events at the annual WSOP tournament. Vanessa Selbst, Barbara Enright, Nani Dollison and Kristen Bicknell all have won 3 WSOP Bracelets. In the year 2007, Barbara Enright was admitted into the Poker Hall of Fame making her the first woman to be inducted. In 2008, she was inducted into the Women in Poker Hall of Fame, making her the only poker player to be in all three poker halls of fame including the Senior Poker Hall of Fame, the World Series of Poker Hall of Fame and the Women in Poker Hall of Fame.

In our home country, we have strong women like Nikita Luther, that have reached great heights in the field of poker and are making us all proud globally. To read more such Throwback Thursday articles, keep reading GutshotMagazine.com!
