Sumit Sapra wins SSS titles on consecutive days

13 might be considered an unlucky number by some but for poker pros who do this day-after-day, such things are really of no consequence. In fact, 13 could be a very good number as was evidenced last evening at The Spartan Poker when Sumit ‘mrgr33n’ Sapra claimed his second title of the Spartan Super Series (SSS) in as many days.

Event #13 of the SSS was a freezeout format, the only one for this day which kicked off the evening schedule of events. Players ponied up a buy-in of INR 990 to take a shot at the INR 2 Lakhs guaranteed prizepool. Of the 196 participating entries, only 27 would make it into the money with min-cash being INR 1,800. Besides mrgr33n, there was another familiar name at the final table of this event in Gaurav ‘NuttieGuttie’ Jain, who is a former winner of Spartan’s signature tournament, The Millionaire last year. Jain however was only able to go as far as 6th place for an INR 10,000 payday.

The field in this freezeout event came down to heads-up in a little over 5 hours between mrgr33n and ‘swaggar’. mrgr33n had the lead in 3-way which widened even further when he eliminated ‘Schumi91’ in second runner-up position. That took mrgr33n’s stack to over a million chips as compared to the 350k stack of his opponent. But that was not going to deter swaggar from putting up a fight for the title. And a fight it was as heads-up went on for a long time with swaggar taking shots at building up his stack.

mrgr33n though being the consummate pro just chipping away at his opponent’s stack till he had a more than 10x lead over swaggar when the final hand happened. Putting the squeeze on his opponent, mrgr33n went all-in with Jh Kh and swaggar knew he had to take a chance with his Ts Js and made the call. A set for mrgr33n on the board of 8c Ah Kd 7c Kc put paid to any hopes for swaggar as he was knocked out and mrgr33n took down the title and first place prize of INR 44,000. swaggar got INR 29,800 for his efforts.

It’s been a good couple of weeks for Sumit Sapra as he claimed the Summit tournament at PokerBaazi and of course won Event #8 at the SSS yesterday besides other deep runs. He will be looking to add more points to help his ascent up the SSS Leaderboard where a cool INR 4 Lakhs awaits the topper.

We will bring you those updates as we go along the rest of this week right here at GutshotMagazine.com!
