Sheldon Adelson – most influential in Asian gaming industry

In a recent development in the gaming industry, the Inside Asian Gaming (IAG) 2018 rankings for the most influential individuals in the Asian gaming industry were announced at the inaugural Asian Gaming Power 50 Gala Dinner. The dinner was held at Studio City in Macau on Friday night.

Sheldon Adelson, the Chairman and CEO of Las Vegas Sands and Sands China, has been ranked 1^st in this list, for the sixth consecutive year! Galaxy Entertainment Group Deputy Chairman Francis Lui closed the gap significantly, but he still came in second, by way of the ranking system used by IAG to determine final positions.

Lui maintained the second spot with Melco Resorts Chairman and CEO Lawrence Ho at number three. Sands China already has three executives inside the top 10 in this list, with Dr. Wilfred Wong at seven and Rob Goldstein at eighth.

Following the February launch of MGM Cotai, MGM China Co-Chairperson and Executive Director Pansy Ho made it back to the top 10 with her 10^th rank. Some of the movers and shakers in the Asian gaming industry who ranked in the list include Suncity Group head Alvin Chau at 5^th ; NagaCorp owner Dr. Chen Lip Keong at 14^th ; Star Entertainment Group’s MD and CEO Matt Bekier at 15^th ; and Wynn Macau VC, CEO and Exec. Director Linda Chen at 18^th. All of the above-mentioned names have finished higher than their previous rankings.

Steve Wynn, co-founder of Wynn Resorts, who recently stepped down from his CEO post and Crown Resorts majority shareholder James Packer also didn’t make it to the list, despite their notable record.

The IAG first published the Asian Gaming Power 50 back in 2008 and has gradually rose to the top as the standard of ranking influencers in the Asian gaming industry, however, this is the first time IAG hosted a black-tie Gala Dinner to celebrate the Power 50.

The dinner was a festival of celebration, with guests being treated to a cocktail reception, a five-course meal, lively entertainment and the company of prestigious industry entrepreneurs and peers.
