PokerStars is a global leader in the poker industry when it comes to live and online poker, both. They have their operations in a number of countries across the world and are now making their presence felt in India as well, recently hosting their first ever online tournament series called ‘Diwali Rush’.
The highlight of that series was not just that INR 1.5+ crore was up for grabs or the INR 30 lakh Main Event, but in fact, a freeroll. It was not just any freeroll, but a freeroll where an extremely prestigious PSPC Platinum Pass was up for grabs, which itself is worth $30,000.
So that tournament took place and a total of 408 entries registered in all, being a free entry to everyone who participated in 3 more tournaments in the Diwali Rush series, while player also being allowed to re-enter for INR 500 if they busted during the late registration period.
As the tournament progressed, things got intense and eventually, it was Sharad Rao who took down the event, winning the $30,000 PSPC Platinum Pass and around INR 60k in cash. Now for those who are wondering what this pass is, it’s a free entry to the PokerStars Players Championship which will be held early in 2019 in The Bahamas. $25k goes towards the buy-in and $5k towards travel and accommodation.
PokerStars gives out these passes throughout the year via online and live events and earlier this year, Sumit Sapra won one at the APPT Korea series. Sharad Rao aka ‘sordykrd’ was the second Indian to win this pass and he will now be all set to go to The Bahamas and try to multiply these winnings into a huge, huge score. Rao interestingly also owns his own poker staking stable called Alpha Grinders.
