Second Annual Global Poker Awards to return in 2020

The inaugural Global Poker Awards (GPA) was held earlier this year in April combining multiple award programs to felicitate the finest and best poker players in the community. Global Poker Index (GPI) has come together with Poker Central and PokerStars once again to host the second annual GPA to be held on Friday, 6 March 2020. Poker Central will broadcast the ceremony live on the PokerGO app from the PokerGO Studios at the ARIA in Las Vegas.

The previous edition came with 19 categories and honoured poker players, reporters, including Ali Imsirovic, Justin Bonomo, Maria Ho and Sarah Herring who walked away with the prestigious award. Surely, the next edition has several surprises and looks different in many ways as the GPI President Eric Danis adds, “The Global Poker Index team is hard at work on this expanded Global Poker Awards event, filled with new awards and experiences for attendees and the viewing audience.” The 2020 event will feature over 20 awards as well as the new category that is Player’s Choice Awards for the Best All-Rounder Poker Player.

President of Poker Central Sampson Simmons states, “The first annual Global Poker Awards were a tremendous success and an important moment for us as an industry to recognize our best and brightest. The second annual event is an important opportunity for Poker Central to once again partner with the Global Poker Index and to stream our community’s biggest night on PokerGO for the fans at home.”

Danis on his Twitter handle stated that the jury system is being eliminated for a ‘totally revamped voting system’. However, the GPI on Tuesday announced that the winners of the 2020 awards will be determined by a voting process by a panel of experts in each category. What might catch the public eye is that the fans get to decide who walks away with the award.

The 2020 annual event will definitely boost the significance of poker around the world and the expansion of the same would create great opportunities for players and other industry members to grow.
