Sandeep Warrier & Varun Chakravarthy From KKR Test Positive For COVID-19


The Indian Premier League (IPL) that started on April 9th has now hit a bump. The match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) vs Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) was the 30th match, which has now been postponed. As per a report by The Indian Express, two players, Sandeep Warrier and Varun Chakravarthy from the KKR camp have tested positive for COVID-19.

The match will be rescheduled state the news reports. The T20 tournament which has crossed the halfway mark successfully is being played without any audience and the teams have been staying in bio-secure bubbles. KKR played on April 29th against Delhi Capitals in Ahmedabad.

As per the report by The Herald, several players, including Australian cricketer Pat Cummins, from KKR are not keeping well. While cricbuzz.com has reported that a message has been sent from the BCCI office to Gujarat Cricket Association in Ahmedabad, the venue where the match was supposed to take place. The GCA members have been informed that the new date for the match will be announced today.

Spinner Chakravarthy recently injured himself and he left the IPL bio-bubble through the green channel to carry out a scan on his shoulder. It is believed that Chakravarthy could have been exposed to the virus when he went to get the scan done. Other players of KKR have all tested negative. This is the first instance of a COVID-19 case among the players of the IPL game. KKR is in the seventh position on the points table while RCB is in third place.

Adding to this, news18.com has reported that Delhi Capitals spin bowler Ravichandran Ashwin, Rajasthan Royals (RR) player Andrew Tye, RCB’s Adam Zampa, Kane Richardson decided to opt-out from the remaining matches of IPL due to the rising COVID-19 cases in India.
