Sajjan Kumar wins Sunday SuperStack at Spartan Poker

Every Sunday is a big night at The Spartan Poker especially with events like the Sunday SuperStack which offers players ?20 Lakhs in guaranteed prizepool on a buy-in of ?5,500. Last night’s SuperStack saw a participation of 538 entries which crushed the guarantee taking it to ?26.90 Lakhs. What this enhanced prizepool meant was that the first place guaranteed prize of ?5 Lakhs went up by almost 30%. An India Online Poker Championship (IOPC) event winner Sajjan ‘sajjan007’ Barnwal took home  INR 6,99,400 for his winning effort. He defeated ‘Manashnayak’ in heads-up who took home INR 4,30,400 for the runner-up prize.

A B.Tech graduate by education, Baranwal is presently working as a Quant faculty for CAT. In an email conversation with GutshotMagazine.com, he said “I have been playing poker regularly since January 2017 when I shipped an early edition of the Sunday SuperStack (it was 6 Lakhs GTD) for the first time. Sunday SuperStack is one of the best regular tourneys in Indian poker! Everything about this tourney is perfect such as buy-in, starting stack and blind level. It gives you enough time to play your best game. I have been playing it continuously and reached the money plenty of times however always got busted before the final table. This time though I was in the top 5 chip counts when bubble busted and then I kept playing a standard game and thanks to the poker Gods, I was able to ship it.”

Speaking about the key hands during his run to the title, Baranwal said, “Just after late registration was over, there was this hand with my friend who plays as ‘BahadurBilla’ who had Kx Tx on BB and I had Qx Qx on CO. The flop came Qx Jx 9x and we went all in there, turn was 9x and I got my full house. That got me a big stack up at that point in time. The other key hand was during the bubble when I lost my chiplead position with a hand AQ < KQ where the villain hit Kx on the river. Eventually it was me only that busted him with QQ>>KK  where I hit Qx on the flop. After this hand, it was all good.”
