Riot Games Reveals LoL Esports Rebrand


Riot Games has announced that the global professional competitive series for their game, encompassing 12 region-based leagues, has been given a unifying makeover called League of Legends Esports. The new brand was officially announced in a 80 second video that comes with a new look encompassing images of iconic moments in the League of Legends history. The brand focuses on the competitive aspects of League of Legends. Not only does it represent twelve regional leagues, but also international competitions such as Mid-Season Invitational, All-star and Lol World Championship Series. 

The four biggest leagues are LCS North America, LCK South Korea, LPL China and LEC Europe which had a 129% increase in average viewers in various video game streaming websites from the previous year. While there are also leagues in Japan, Russia, Vietnam, Latin America, Oceania, Brazil, Turkey, and in the Pacific Championship Series. 

The Global Head of Esports, Riot Games, John Needham said, “We aspire to bring joy to billions of LoL Esports fans around the world. It starts with building a thriving global esports ecosystem supported by electrifying competition, sustainable growth, cutting-edge technology, bold entertainment, and a focus on integrity for our teams and the sport.” Riot also announced three new video series which are a  summary of weekly highlights on Tuesdays premiering 21st July, a show featuring Penta, the top plays of the week on Wednesday which airs on 22nd July, and a debate-type show featuring casters from around the world every Thursday 23rd July. The shows will appear weekly on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter on the league’s homepage.

League of Legends remains one of the most popular esports globally today, with over 800 competitors on 100 professional teams across 12 regional leagues around the world. A Riot spokesperson said with this rebranding professional players can focus both on leagues and events not just international tournaments, a place where They are attempting to build a more seamless experience and provide sports entertainment at its highest as they believe fans are increasingly watching foreign league play.
