The six-time WSOP bracelet winner, poker industry’s superstar Daniel Negreanu is in the limelight this week. After an outburst at a viewer in a recent World Series of Poker Online Twitch stream, ‘RealKidPoker’ is being challenged for heads-up by retired poker pro Doug Polk. The challenge was an apparent response to a plea by Joey Ingram that Polk and Negreanu compete against each other on the felt who tweeted that the duo should “settle this” by playing heads-up.
Polk was only 30-years-old when he announced his retirement from poker in 2018 September. On 29 July, the 3-time bracelet winner officially challenged the GGPoker Ambassador to a heads-up match after posting on his Twitter handle, “I officially challenge Dnegs to a HUNL battle. I am hoping to leave with both his money, and my teeth still in my mouth.” Polk quote tweeted Ingram and said that if the tweet got 1,000 retweets, then he would “come back to poker” for one final heads-up match.
I officially challenge Dnegs to a HUNL battle. I am hoping to leave with both his money, and my teeth still in my mouth. https://t.co/yE4ibc8Ydl

The tweet got the required amount of retweets and Polk offered a match Tuesday afternoon. He offered to play 4 tables of heads-up NLH for 25,000 hands. There would likely be a side bet on whoever won the match, as has been the case with every other similar heads-up challenge. But Negreanu immediately pointed out that HUNL was not his strong point which for Polk is bread and butter. In return, the latter tweeted saying they could split the challenge between both formats.
Ok so I’m clear:
You want to play the format you studied the most and I haven’t.
You want it to be played online.
And you want me to play 4 tables at the same time?
Anything else? You want me to stream it too so you can see my hole cards? https://t.co/3k1wuRwBd2

How about this, we each pick a game. Challenge is split between both formats.
I want to do this online so we can actually play some reasonable volume, but I am willing to move it down to 2 tables.
Also I have never used a solver in my life and havent studied in years. https://t.co/PAVOc6Ibmt

Both Polk and Negreanu have disliked each other since the time Negreanu was PokerStars brand ambassador. Polk trolled him igniting a poker rivalry between the two pros.
You were one of my favorite players. But that didn't end because I made videos online, it ended because somewhere along the way you totally sold out to make money at the expense of the common player. https://t.co/M6xfEdCVJj

Which is more exciting to watch as a heads up format?
1) Set number of hands, same stakes throughout
2) Set amount of money, stakes go up every 1000 hands until one player busts
(Could also do best of 3,5 or 7)— Daniel Negreanu (@RealKidPoker) July 30, 2020
As of Tuesday, the pros have not agreed to heads-up match and we will have to keep an eye whether the match ever takes place. Keep reading GutshotMagazine.com for more updates on poker news around the world.
