The World Series of Poker (WSOP) recently announced a new policy for players attending the WSOP 2021 live events. The policy requires players attending the 2021 World Series of Poker tournament and WSOP The Main Event: $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em World Championship to mandatorily show proof that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. The prestigious event, which is set to return to live play from Thursday, September 30th, 2021, until Tuesday i.e., November 23rd, 2021, will be held at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
Ty Stewart, WSOP Executive Director, said, “This is not a decision we have taken lightly, it is made with no agenda beyond protecting player eligibility and the operations of a unique televised gaming event. The nature of poker is to be in close proximity with your opponents for extended periods of time, and a seat at the World Series of Poker is a commitment for both our company and the participants. We want players to be excited for their return to the WSOP while offering the greatest level of protection and limiting complications during the tournament this fall.”

Participating players will be required to disclose valid proof that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 during the first registration in order to participate in WSOP events. The policy will be applicable to all WSOP events including bracelet events, deep stack tournaments, satellites and live-action games.
The WSOP organisers will use an application called CLEAR’s free mobile app along with a Health Pass feature for verification of the same. Players who add their full vaccination proof via CLEAR’s Health Pass can directly go to the registration cage tellers in the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino Convention Center. Apart from the online verification, an on-site centre for verification of alternate documentation like physical vaccination cards, and state or country-specific health passes, will also be made available by the WSOP.

For any player to be considered as ‘fully vaccinated’ against COVID-19, the player must receive their final vaccine dose 14 days prior to the WSOP start date. It is to be noted that this policy applies to all participants, press, spectators and vendors.
Additionally, keeping up with the current Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines and state directives, all attendees and team members will mandatorily have to wear masks. Lastly, the new policy also states that fully vaccinated WSOP participants, who have been exposed to a COVID-positive person, will not be required to leave the tournament and stay in quarantine if they have remained asymptomatic since the exposure.
