Pride Group acquires Illinois casino vessel, Argosy IV

The Pride Group is known for operating two floating casinos in the River Mandovi in Goa, namely Casino Pride and Casino Pride 2. A couple of days back, however, the group announced that they have acquired another casino vessel from Illinois which they will use as a temporary platform while their vessels undergo repairs.

Argosy IV is the vessel that they have welcomed from Illinois, a 3-deck vessel with 36,000 sq.ft. of gaming space that has been used as an offshore casino in the past. The owner of Argosy IV had put the vessel up for sale for $850k (~INR 6 crore) earlier this year, having served as a gaming boat in waterways in Kansas City, Missouri and Sioux City, Iowa in the past.

In September this year, the boat was docked onto Eide Trader, a semi-submersible boat, for its journey to India. Argosy IV’s entry into the Mandovi earlier sparked some concerns over whether the Goa Government had issued a license for another casino vessel to operate in the river.

However, the development was confirmed by the Pride Group on Thursday. Shrinivas Nayak, Director of Pride Group, said, “We have bought the vessel as a substitute for the two existing casino vessels that we operate in the Mandovi. We are switching vessels, and this is not a new casino. The two vessels, Casino Pride I and Casino Pride II are steel hull vessels and they have to go in the dry dock for repairs. Since this takes a long time, we thought of having a spare vessel.”

Argosy IV will be sent to a dry dock in Jaigarh, Ratnagiri, for minor repair works following which it will be brought back to Goa. Then, the existing two vessels will be sent over for repairs and the new one will act as the ‘substitute’ vessel so that the group can keep their gaming business running during the period of repairs.
