PPL SE Day 5: Kochhar, Gupta, Azhar, Chadha bag titles


The biggest online poker series happening right now is being hosted on PokerBaazi. The platform had announced the PPL Special Edition, out of which the part of the profits will go to an NGO named VIDYA, concerned with the education of underprivileged children.

PPL SE saw Day 5 being played yesterday, which had a total of 5 tournaments lined up. The feature tournament of Thursday on PokerBaazi, Summit, was hosted with INR 30 Lakhs GTD, though the biggest tournament of the day was High Roller INR 50 Lakhs GTD. Here’s a round-up of yesterday’s action-packed day on PokerBaazi:

PPL #21 – INR 5 Lakhs GTD

The day kicked off with this tournament, attracting a field of 459 players. The INR 1,250 buy-in was chipped in by the field which crushed guaranteed amount by an extra ~INR 73K.  ‘dybalamask’ shipped this tournament and earned INR 1,15,323 as the first-place cash prize, beating Kuldeep Jorawal aka ‘Bacchapro’ in heads-up, who settled for INR 80,841 on PokerBaazi.

PPL #22 – 6-max INR 2 Lakhs GTD

Community regular Arjanveer Chadha aka ‘holdbaby’ won the 2nd event of the day and earned INR 42,000 for his efforts. He beat a tough field of 386 entries (including 212 re-entries) and Rohit Dua aka ‘lil_d’ in heads-up to conquer the tournament. Dua settled for INR 29.4K as runner-up cash prize in the tournament. The top 45 players received pay-checks.

Though this isn’t a significant amount for someone like Chadha, a community regular with a lot of staggering wins to his name, he will nonetheless be looking to convert it into more wins in the future, on PokerBaazi and other sites.

PPL #23 – 4-max Hyper INR 2 Lakhs GTD

For a buy-in of INR 1,100, the 3rd tournament of the day in the series attracted a total of 287 entries (including 152 re-entries) to the virtual felts. The top 36 players finished in the money and topping this was Mohammad Azhar aka ‘chandlerbing’ who made a double, having already won Day 3’s PPL #15 for ~INR 1.37 Lakhs. He earned INR 63,398 as first-place cash prize. Azhar dominated the field and throughout and beat Wilson Yomso aka ‘kalingkaling’ in heads-up, another known regular who won this month’s 5 For 5 on Spartan.

PPL #24 – Summit INR 30 Lakhs GTD

The feature tournament of the day The Summit was conquered by Sajal Gupta aka ‘Bloodless’ for a wholesome INR 8,07,316 as the first-place cash prize. Gupta beat a field of 554 entries (262 re-entries) and ‘rajaji1’ in heads-up to ship the tournament. Gupta beat a well-packed field of regs and the FT itself included the likes of Neeraj Kumar (3rd), Jayjit Ray (4th), Ashish Ahuja (5th) and Amar Mehta (8th).

Gupta is a well-established player in the circuit and has shipped staggering titles on numerous occasions in the past, both on live and online felts. Gutshot even had an interview with him last January after his IOPC Leaderboard victory which you can read here. With last night’s awesome win, he will be looking to carry the winning trend forward into the future.

PPL #25 – High Roller INR 50 Lakhs GTD

The last tournament of the series was also the biggest and attracted a total of 290 entries (including 97 re-entries). The resulting prize pool came to INR 72.5 Lakhs, a huge increase from the original guarantee. After over 9 hours of tough action, given the INR 27.5K that filtered only the fat bankrollers of the community, the player to ship the tournament was Anjali Kochhar aka ‘Smoothie12’ who took home a whopping INR 16,01,525. Kocchar beat online reg Anish Patra aka ‘Illusionist’ in heads-up, who settled for INR 11,23,750 runner-up prize money.

The top 36 ITM finishes included notables Neel Joshi (3rd – INR 7,22,825), Sajal Gupta (4th – INR 5,35,050), Jayjit Ray (17th), Naren Purohit (20th), Sumit Sapra (21st), Shravan Chhabria (23rd), Akshay Nasa (25th), Akash Gupta (30th), Ujjwal Narwal (31st), Abhinav Iyer (33rd), Anurag Srivastava (34th), and others.
