PokerStars APPT Cambodia 2023 Main Event: Abhinav Iyer Out On The Bubble

It was indeed sad to see India’s first solo World Series Of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner Abhinav Iyer turn bubble boy at the PokerStars Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) Cambodia 2023 Main Event. The event which saw Iyer bag and tag for Day 2 saw him being eliminated by a French player named Adrien Tantaro. At Level 16, Blinds: 2K/5K, Ante 5,K, Iyer was on a risky spot for around 142,000 while his rival had him covered with approx. 10 big blinds.

Both players had pocket pairs, Iyer had Fishhooks while Tantaro played with the Ladies. The dealer fanned out a board of 8♥8♠5♦2♥7♠ which was no good for Iyer and he was eliminated on the bubble. Iyer had Ashish Munot railing for him but sadly for the Indian crew, it was game over for the WSOP bracelet winner. 

Apart from Iyer, Vinay B was also grinding in Day 2 of the PokerStars APPT Cambodia 2023 Main Event. Vinay made it in the money but could progress ahead as he busted shortly after the money bubble was formed on the 69th position for a payday of $2,369. PokerNews reporters mentioned in their updates that Vinay was seen in a line where players had gathered near the payouts desk. Another Indian player Mohit Bohra also busted at Level 17 when Yannick Jobin cracked Bohra’s pocket aces with pocket sevens when a seven of diamonds showed up on the flop.

Jobin hit three of a kind with his sevens and survived but for the Indian player who won a trophy in the current APPT season, it was pack up time. The Indian crew that was grinding in Day 2 also included names like Shardul Parthasarathi (busted 125th), Ashish Munot, Vishal Ojha (Day 1B chip leader), Ashish Ghosh and Krishnan Menon (busted 127th).

Talking about the coveted Main Event, Alexander Puchalski, the defending champion is still in contention with Vietnam’s Bien Mai (680,000) leading in chips counts as we write this update. The top prize in the Main Event stands at $120,300 and the runner-up will get a pay cheque of $75,795.
