PokerBros calls removal of app from Apple a ‘temporary glitch’

PokerBros launched in 2019 has particularly gained ground during the COVID-19 lockdown. PokerBros has become a favourite for the players in United States and across the globe too. According to PokerBros, new registrations in the US were stopped last week due to certain unexpected circumstances. They have not yet disclosed the reason as to why their app was removed from the US Apple store but there were a series of tweets between Poker Bros twitter handle and the players that were anxious that their favourite app was no more available for some users.

Poker is a free-play application that uses the ‘freemium model’. This structure is commonly used in mobile gaming and gives players the ability to use the app for free. Members of the app can play private games with virtual chips. The PokerBros app allows users to buy packages of  play money chips. These chips can be used for private games and distributed to participants in a way the host likes.

PokerBros representatives have counter tweeted and made it clear that it is only a temporary issue localized in US. They have assured that it will be resolved in a few days and that they expect the application to be back online within the next couple of days itself. The app is still available on Google Play and in countries outside the US. Some Android users have encountered connectivity issues, but nothing major, they say. In June 2019, Apple updated its terms and conditions but it is unsure if the glitch is due to it.

While monitoring and controlling in-app transactions, Apple had stated that HTML5 games could no longer be offered for real money. Players that are wanting to offer real-money games were required to recode their apps in a language that only works on iOS. If Apple deems PokerBros to be a real-money gaming app and it hasn’t complied with these changes, that may be the reason for the shutdown. However, there may be other explanations too. With online poker surging during the lockdown period and PokerBros gaining much recognition, we are looking forward to this issue being addressed at the earliest.
