GGPoker’s WSOP Event Crashes due to Technical Problems

GGPoker players had some technical problems while World Series of Poker (WSOP) Online event was underway. On 24 August, a significant error occurred that would cost the site almost $900,000 in compensation. A series of tweets by GGPoker explained that there was a load issue on their site which has caused the delay, “We are aware of some load issues, with tens of thousands of players sitting down around this time for big events. You will experience delays when taking your seat. If you notice out of sync info, please restart the client. Thanks for your patience and support.”

More than 8,000 players have been affected by the technical glitch, the exact cost is mentioned below. That was in addition to more than $1 million in returned entry fees in T$, with the GGPoker operator tweeting, “We will work hard so that this does not happen again”.

  • Bounty Hunters Main Event $210: 1104 players ($231,840)
  • Bounty Hunters Sunday Special $84: 422 players ($35,448)
  • GGMasters $150: 2804 players ($420,600)
  • Big $50 Day 2: 4140 players ($207,000)

This month has been tough on GGPoker with multiple controversies piling up. It began with, German poker player Tobias Duthweiler who called out GGPoker in a post on a forum, saying that the poker site banned him and confiscated his money after going on a winning streak. The tweet began a spark in the poker community with other poker pros shedding insight and commenting on a tweet by Stuart Rutter. This led to a debate by the poker community regarding the banning of players on the basis that he did not satisfy the poker ecology requirements.

On 23 August, GGPoker extended an olive branch to the previously banned players, who wish to join the site again. Players who wish to join will need to submit their previous username, date of ban, the name on their passport and a copy of government issued ID by 5 September. . Fedor Holz, an ambassador of GGPoker, denied the claims that the players were being targeted and banned. In fact, he suggested it could be based on ‘bum-hunting’, a term used for pros who specifically seek out losing players. The platform also released a breakdown of what makes a good pro, regular pro and a bad pro, to let players know what is expected from them.

Former WSOP Europe and EPT Main Event double champion, Kevin MacPhee revealed on his Twitter that his GGPoker account had allegedly been hacked, his bankroll emptied. MacPhee was taken by surprise on how his account was compromised. GGPoker has received a lot of flak over the past few weeks over different controversies. But the site stood firm abiding its rules and regulation to ensure the safety of the customers.

GGPoker has been constantly upgrading their security and also adding new features to enhance user experience on their platform. For more updates on GGPoker and it’s latest features, keep reading GutshotMagazine.com
