The action moved from WSOP.com to GGPoker hosting the ultimate event of the year – 2020 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Online. With 54 bracelet events on the menu, poker players around the world are highly excited for the grandest online festival, a replacement for the summer series in Las Vegas. The GGpoker tourney kicked off on Sunday, 19 July hosting three events out of which two faced technical issues and #34 declared a champion in Japan.
RECORD BROKEN!
We have just passed the previous record number of entries (28,371) participating in a @WSOP event!

The first two events were Event #32: $100 The Opener and Event #33: $1,111 NLHE for Covid Relief. The first event itself brought in 29K entries in one of the Day 1 flights so far smashing the guarantee of $2 million! And the “temporary load issue” that was a “critical bug” required GGPoker to pause the tournament and the operator plans to resume the tournaments next weekend at 2:30 pm ET on Sunday, 26 July. The eventual winner will also receive a WSOP Europe Package Ticket.
“We apologize for everything that happened today,” reads a statement published by both the GGpoker and Natural8 Twitter accounts at approximately 9pm UTC on Sunday. “A critical bug … was caused by an overwhelming number of players joining The Opener and other side events.”
The bug was caused by an overwhelming number of players joining The Opener and other side events. The tournament servers were unable to resume due to high loads. We will increase more capacity (we just doubled it) to make sure future events run smoothly

The biggest tournament in the history of WSOP was the 2019 Event #3: BIG50 – $500 No-Limit Hold’em which recorded 28,371 entry field, breaking all past records and Femi Fashakin who turned $500 event into a life-changing $1,147,449!
The following Event #33 had the same fate as The Opener leaving a sizable 1,418 players. A few minutes of late registration was still open at the time of the shutdown however it is uncertain if that will still be available once it resumes on July 26 at 6 pm UTC. In order to compensate, GGPoker doubled the donation for COVID relief event. Some of the notable players in the competition were GGPoker Ambassador Fedor Holz, and Bertrand Grospellier ‘ElkY’, Natural8 Team Hot Ambassadors: Yen Han Chen ‘TurboPete’, Michael Soyza, Thai Ha and so on.
GGPoker ambassador Daniel Negreanu shared on Twitter, “I want to apologize on behalf of GGPoker for what went on today. Absolutely unacceptable. This absolutely sucks. I know you’re tilted. Me too. Unfortunate. Sorry. We’re going to make it right.”
Apologize for the issues today on @GGPokerOfficial I totally feel your pain. Nothing more aggravating than software issues!
Be sure to follow @GGPokerOfficial for the compensation plan for those of you who were affected.
