Poker Player Aman Kejriwal Passes Away Due To COVID-19

The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic are felt in a major way across the globe. India, a country with a population of 1.3 Billion people, ranks as the second worst-hit country just after the United States. The second wave of the pandemic is raging across the nation; affecting loved ones and reminding everyone that the horrors of the past year are still very much a reality for many.

It was amidst this wave of sickness that the poker community experienced a deeply heartbreaking loss with the demise of Aman Kejriwal, a poker player on both live and virtual felts. Kejriwal was infected by COVID-19 on 19 April and passed away on Saturday, 24 April from complications brought on by the sickness. While the vaccines have finally arrived, it was a little too late for this young poker player who died on his way to the hospital in Durgapur.

In the wake of this loss, many poker players were quick to express their heartfelt condolences on social media. As per a quote given to another leading poker news website, Prashant Jain Bhutoria, a dear friend of the late player said, “I’ve known Aman since nearly a decade, but we started working together for the last two years. He was a very jovial and genuine guy who always talked a lot about his family and dreams. He was a friend with a golden heart and someone you could turn to in need. Poker was his passion, and he worked for it. He was so happy since he had just booked his Beamer! I will always miss him, and he will always be special in my heart.”

Born in Kolkata, Kejriwal was a well-known name in the poker community and a passionate player. His love for the game started from a young age and grew with time and patience. Among his list of poker achievements were a few live cashes as well, the best of which will have to be at the April 2015 India Poker Championship in Goa. Kejriwal made it to the final table of the INR 5,750 NLHE freezeout and came fifth in the event.

He even made the trip to the Mecca of Poker, Las Vegas, which was one of his most loved poker destinations. He participated in the 2019 World Series of Poker (WSOP) and even cashed at two bracelet events, followed by multiple cashes in the 2020 WSOP Online Event the following year.

As the poker community mourns the loss of one of its brightest stars, let us remember that these times are not to be taken lightly. So stay safe, wear a mask, and take the necessary precautions. We will get through these terrible times together.
