Poker Dictionary – Dead Collection Blind

The poker industry has several terms and phrases that are used on an everyday basis. Such unique terms make it difficult for laymen to understand what is being spoken about. While there are several poker terms such as dead man’s hand, card dead, dead money, etc. that have the word dead associated with it, today we will look at ‘Dead Collection Blind’. Firstly, a blind in poker is a forced bet posted by players who are on the left of the dealer. There are two blinds, namely small blind and big blind. The term ‘blind’ is used because players are forced to put this bet without seeing their cards. 

What is Dead Collection Blind?

This collection blind is a fee posted by the player on the button/ the dealer. The amount is taken as an alternative method of seat rental. This fee is also known as button charge. On the contrary, the term dead blind has a different meaning altogether. 

In cash games, players tend to sit out or take a break during the grind. When the player comes back to join the game again, they would have missed paying the blinds by virtue of sitting out. Those blinds are “dead” and now become a part of the pot/prize pool. In a particular event, if a player busts out on a hand where he or she was in the big blind, on the next hand the small blind will be “dead” and not post anything since the big blind is now empty.
