If you’ve ever played a game of poker, you’ll know how interesting and fascinating the game is. But you know what’s even more fascinating? The terms and phrases used in the poker game. To equip you with the vocabulary used in poker, we have a poker glossary page in place.

In poker, every starting hand has a unique name. In this article we will discuss one such name – ‘Ainsworth.’ Keep reading to find out what Ainsworth means.

What is Ainsworth?

The name Ainsworth has been given to the starting poker hand of 6,2 irrespective of the suit. In Texas Hold’em, if a player has 6 and 2 as his/her starting hand, then that player has an Ainsworth.

Why Ainsworth?

The starting hand has been named after the famous British poker player Ron Ainsworth. 6,2 is usually a very weak starting hand to have and players generally choose to fold this hand because of the low possibilities of making a good hand on the board. However, the British player not only played this hand but also won a tournament once with a 6,2 as his starting hand. Hence the hand has been named after him.
