Let’s discuss one such term given to a poker strategy — Advertise. The word is a common one in our day-to-day life, but what does it mean in poker, let’s find out.

What is Advertise?

To advertise is to downplay a mediocre poker hand in a deliberate attempt to showcase that your poker game is not that strong. When you make an obvious move in a way that rival players can read your game as a style of playing, it is known as Advertising.

A player who uses Advertising as his/her strategy can then bluff his way into winning a poker hand. Poker players usually form an impression about their opponents during the first few hands/hours of play and are bad at revising their first impressions. Hence, advertising can be beneficial in the long run.

Advertising can also be described as any action which a player takes at the poker table to manipulate how rivals assess him/her.
