Phil Ivey And Magnus Carlsen Under One Roof!

The 10-time World Series Of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner Phil Ivey and five-time World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen had an epic Saturday night as they played poker together. Just a few days ago we had penned an article about Carlsen grinding at the WSOP 2022 Main Event. He participated in Day 1C, the world-renowned chess champion could not make it to Day 2.

This is not the first time that Carlsen has tried his hand at poker. Even six-time WSOP bracelet winner Daniel Negreanu once got the chance to analyze Carlsen’s game, and the both of them had a friendly banter over it on Twitter.

Negreanu got a tweet from Carlsen suggesting that he should analyze one of Negreanu’s chess games and later went on to reply, “Thanks for the kind words and the analysis @RealKidPoker,” wrote Carlsen. “Now it’s definitely my turn to analyze a chess game of yours!”

The comparisons between poker games have been going on forever. So much so that Quora even has dedicated conversations of ‘Who do you think is more intelligent, Magnus Carlsen or Phil Ivey? Chess.com also has a chat discussion forum which has hundreds of people discussing the supremacy of one skill game over the other.

Phil Ivey And Magnus Carlsen In Twitch Stream

Just recently, on 9th July, there was a Twitch High stakes stream which featured both players. Alexandra Botez, one-half of Twitch’s popular chess-playing sister duo, announced the latest high-stakes poker game to be hosted on Twitch. In her recent tweet, Botez, an American-Canadian chess player, commentator, Twitch streamer and Youtuber, revealed the names of several well-known personalities in the live stream and chess communities, including Ludwig Ahgren, Phil Ivey, Magnus Carlsen, Ninja, Yassuo, and Mister Keating.

Ahgren, another famous YouTuber, added that poker streams had seen a significant rise in interest and viewership from live streamers and fans alike. We hope such gaming nights between top pros help bridge the gap between chess and poker.
