Nitin Arora wins Mega Freeze on The Spartan Poker

Every day is a good day for poker players on The Spartan Poker, as featured tournaments take place on each day of the week. Yesterday was a Monday and like every Monday, the INR 5 lakh GTD Mega Freeze tournament takes place on Spartan, with a buy-in of INR 5,500.

The tournament began at 7:30pm IST and after nearly 5 hours of grinding, Nitin Arora aka ‘Demogorgon’ emerged victorious, smashing through a field of 101 players (no re-entries). He beat Vinay B aka ‘Minimalist’ in heads up and took home INR 1,29,027.5 for this win.

Both have been regular winners in the online poker circuit, with Vinay winning quite a few titles on Spartan, including The Flash a couple of weeks back, The Daredevil and also The Elite last month. This time however, he couldn’t get past Arora to win the Mega Freeze title. ‘vyakulkumar010’ finished third in this tournament and he also recently shipped the Destiny tournament last week.

It was Level #35 in the tournament when we approached the final hand, with blinds running 6,000/12,000 – 1,500. Arora held nearly a 3.5:1 chip lead coming into the final hand, where four diamond suited cards opened on the flop and both players hit flushes. Arora won with an Ace-high flush and Jack kicker.

The 24-year old Arora was born and brought up in Delhi, where he completed his BBA, before completing his MBA from Alliance University, Bangalore. “I used to play poker with my friends when I was in my graduation days, but that was mostly for fun and never took it seriously. It was when I came to Bangalore in 2015 for my MBA that I was introduced to this beautiful game by my friends. Initially for a year, I used to play with my friends in hostel, but with time when I realized I was doing really good and came to know that we can play poker online. I deposited my first INR 200 on PokerBaazi in Aug 2016. I played mostly cash and then I came to know that we have poker clubs in Bangalore, where I developed real love for this game,” he told Gutshot about his introduction to poker.

He continued, saying, “I used to play cash games and tournaments in Bangalore; shipped couple of tournaments when it had been only 2-3 months of live. I was playing mostly the low buy-in tournaments until mid-2017. I came back to Delhi after completing my MBA in July 2017 and that was when I started putting volume and moved up towards higher buy-in tournaments.”

Arora has been a part of the FT in several featured events on The Spartan Poker, finishing 3rd in Mega Stack, 3rd in Elite, 5th in Sunday Super Stack and winning yesterday. “The experience was quite good playing yesterday. I was in the top 5 stacks when bubble was going on. I lost 2-3 hands continuously that got down to only 12 BBs. I was 12/12, went down to 6 BBs and entered the FT with 8/8. I shoved on a few spots and managed to get in the top 3 but was still short. Manged to play few spots good and then I was chip leading. Key hand would be when I had a flip against ‘investmentbanker’ – his 66s against my AK. It was then when I got momentum,” said Arora about winning the Mega Freeze yesterday.

Arora is on a good run and he will be looking for bigger wins in the near future. Keep reading GutshotMagazine.com for similar reports on poker tournaments from around the world.
