Nishiyama tops Championships Event 1B; Sapra progresses

The Asian Poker Tour (APT) currently has a stop at the Pro Poker Club in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. Two of the highlights of most APT events are the Main Event and the Championships Event and the latter kicked off a couple of days back. Now, both the scheduled starting flight have concluded, and we can look forward to Day 2 which begins later today.

Day 1A saw 5 Indians among 25 survivors while Day 1B witnessed a much larger participation. A total of 101 entries registered on this second flight yesterday and after 8 gruelling levels of poker being played, only 49 managed to find a bag to resume on Day 2. This takes the total survivor list to 74 players!

Bagging the two largest stacks of the night were Japan’s Hiroshi Nishiyama (249,800) and Vietnam’s Cao Ngoc Anh (243,900), both of who continued hot runs, winning respective side events just the previous day at APT Vietnam Ho Chi Minh 2019. However, both of them combined aren’t even close to Day 1A chip leader Joseph Talamayan’s monstrous stack of 562k!

While 5 Indians made it through from the first starting flight, only one made it through from this one. Sumit Sapra is that lone Indian survivor, progressing with a decent stack of 108,700 chips, which places him 21st of the 49 players that move ahead to Day 2 from this flight. Sapra has over $200k in career live cashes and we know that he is capable of chipping up early on Day 2 today.

Day 1B top 10 chip counts:

  1. Hiroshi Nishiyama – 249,800
  2. Cao Ngoc Anh – 243,900
  3. Oliver Helm – 219,000
  4. Huynh Tan Dung – 207,500
  5. Tobias Napel – 190,400
  6. Richard Marquez – 188,800
  7. Le Ngoc Khanh – 171,700
  8. Chen Dajza – 169,700
  9. Binh Minh – 163,000
  10. Tran Son Thach – 159,200
