Nishant Sharma, Anant Purohit big winners on IOPC Day 11

Spartan Poker is known for hosting the biggest tournaments in online poker in India and if you were unsure of that, take a look at some of the high-octane action that took place last night in the India Online Poker Championship (IOPC). We had a total of 4 tournaments declaring winners on IOPC Day 11, while the signature Millionaire tournament finished the third of its 7 scheduled starting flights.

Last year, Nishant Sharma recorded India’s best WSOP Main Event finish when he finished 34th in 2018 and he’s been getting some big scores online since then as well. Here, he won the IOPC Destiny tournament while another known player to bag an IOPC title last night was Anant Purohit. Keep reading for more…

IOPC Event #52 INR 3 Lakh GTD

The re-entry tournament recorded 615 entries which was just enough to get over the advertised guaranteed amount, each paying INR 550 to participate. From the vast field that took part, only the top 47 were to be paid out and each of them received a minimum of INR 1,752 in prize money. However, for Mohd Rafiq, there was nothing but an IOPC title in sight, and he grinded his way past every other entry to ship the tournament and add INR 59,931 to his poker bankroll. Playing as ‘Mrkhan03’ on Spartan Poker, Rafiq hit the final nail in the coffin when he beat ‘SandeeSingh’ in heads-up, the latter finishing second for INR 38,068. Talking to Gutshot after the win, Rafiq said, “An IOPC title win is really great for me and I believe this will definitely prove to be a boost for my upcoming poker journey.”

IOPC Event #53 INR 2.5 Lakh GTD

Paying INR 660 to participate, a field of 467 entries joined the competition and that was enough to pass the guarantee by a little bit. Before the bigger tournaments took place, this was the last chance for some of the lower stakes grinders to make some big bucks and here, it was ‘BIT00Poker’ who won top honours and an IOPC title, to go with INR 59,262 in prize money. He beat ‘VKarm267’ in heads-up and they were two of only 31 players who were paid out in this field. Eventually, an A-high flush beat an 8-Q straight on the river of the final hand and the runner-up had to settle for INR 39,900 in this tournament.

IOPC Event #54 Destiny INR 25 Lakh GTD

Everyone loves Destiny on Spartan because it allows poker pros the chance to win from such a big prize pool each Wednesday, while also gaining a ticket into the Finale SnG, where 10 winners battle it out for further cash prizes. Winning a Destiny title is always a matter of pride and if you do it during the IOPC, even better. Nishant Sharma plays as ‘FunkyouFTW1’ on Spartan and he’s never too far away from a big victory online. The field of 669 entries all paid INR 5,500 per entry and 8 hours after the tournament began, Sharma was declared winner, bagging INR 8,69,700 in prize money. In heads-up, he beat ‘bhukaBangali’ who won INR 5,35,200. Some known names to finish in the money included Arsh Grover (3rd), Apratim Sharma (4th), Manish Lakhotia (5th), Jayjit Ray (10th), Ashish Munot (11th), Sandeep Varma (12th), and many others.

IOPC Event #55 Hi-Fi INR 12 Lakh GTD

Following the trend, it was the Hi-Fi to end proceedings again on Spartan Poker, this time with a much higher buy-in of INR 3,300. 494 entries broke the guarantee and accumulated INR 14,82,000 in the prize pool and what began at 10pm eventually ended at 4:31am this morning, with Anant Purohit aka ‘Pro’ walking away as champion! Purohit tends to up his game when major series take place on Spartan and here, he won the top prize of INR 2,88,841 for shipping Hi-Fi. He beat Sandeep Varma aka ‘effuno’ in heads-up and this guy had a good day, also making a deep run in Destiny. Here, he pocketed INR 1,83,471 for second place.

IOPC Millionaire INR 2 Crore GTD Day 1C

The Millionaire has made a comeback on Spartan but this time it’s bigger and better with a stunning INR 2 Crore GTD prize pool. What’s interesting is there are 7 starting flights to this competition and last night was the third of these. Beginning at 6 and ending at 10pm, we had a total of 335 entries each paying up INR 11,000 to enter and this added another INR 33.5 Lakh to the tournament prize pool, taking the total well past INR 1 Crore already. Remember, we still have 4 starting flights left! Now from this field, 48 survivors bagged their chips to return on Day 2, taking the survivor count to 187 in all, and the player to lead the chip counts today was ‘Timbuktoo’, progressing with a stack of 184,673 chips.

Four days of action-packed poker are still in store for players in the ongoing IOPC series and you can stay tuned to GutshotMagazine.com for all updates on the same.
