Nikhil Ramesh wins IOPC ‘The Millionaire’ on Spartan Poker

Yesterday was one of the biggest days of the ongoing India Online Poker Championship (IOPC) being held on The Spartan Poker between 13-22 July 2018, where INR 7+ crore is up for grabs in guaranteed prizes. Spartan’s signature tournament called ‘The Millionaire’ took place yesterday, with a massive guaranteed prize pool of INR 1 crore!

Players all across the country wait for this mega tournament every month and yesterday was no different, with 1,298 entries registering to IOPC Event #14 THE MILLIONAIRE INR 1 Crore GTD (7700 RE), which had a buy-in of INR 7,700 and began at 4:30pm IST.

The prize pool allowed the top 120 players to be paid out a minimum cash prize of INR 20,000 while a massive prize of INR 25 lakh was kept aside for first place. After hours and hours of online grinding, it was Nikhil Ramesh aka ‘rn275’ who shipped the tournament, taking home this massive first-place prize.

Ramesh has been on a hot run in the last couple of days, having taken down IOPC Event #3 a couple of days back and becoming the second person to win two titles in this edition of the IOPC, after Vidwath Shetty. However, this was a huge tournament and Ramesh has taken a good lead on the IOPC Leaderboard, where a Jeep Compass has been set aside for first place.

He faced off against Hemanth Motepalli aka ‘bluffwentwrong’ in heads-up and Ramesh’s pocket queens turned out to be better than a pair of sixes that Motepalli managed. Ramesh took down the pot and also a huge online score, while Motepalli took home INR 15 lakh for finishing second in this tournament.

We caught up with Ramesh after he shipped this iconic tournament, who only plays poker tournaments as he finds them more interesting. “It’s not so one-dimensional like cash games and there are so many extra parameters to consider when playing,” he told us about his game mix.

Talking about shipping The Millionaire, he said, “The journey was tremendously tiring and rewarding. I ran good, stuck to the charts, tried not to flip often and played good poker. I had a decent chip stack going into the final 4 and figured I could easily win from there. I was so wrong about this and had to play for the next 2-3 hours to finally ship it. I didn’t have high hopes and just concentrated on my game.” His family was quite elated with this win too.

“Not much change of plans. Would be continuing the same stakes and try to win more. I would also probably invest in some poker course and better my skills,” he said when we asked him about his future poker plans. “I thank The Spartan Poker for organizing IOPC events and the enticing leaderboard,” he added on a parting note.

The only other tournament that will have an INR 1 crore prize pool is the IOPC Main Event, which is scheduled for 22nd July at 4:30pm IST. Keep reading GutshotMagazine.com for a similar report on every tournament in this cash-rich series and for interviews with the big winners as well.
