Mike Sexton is fighting prostate cancer and is severely ill

Mike Sexton is fighting prostate cancer, according to his poker friends on social media. And it appears the long-time World Poker Tour commentator and poker legend is severely ill. On Monday, social media lit up as Alan @dinkinc posted a tweet regarding Sexton’s health.

According to Linda Johnson, Sexton only wanted to deliver positive messages so he kept his health problems private. She also mentioned in her tweet, that he has been battling prostate cancer that has recently spread to other organs. Poker pro Daniel Negreanu also shared a tweet, hoping for a miracle and the impact that Sexton has in the poker community. Many others in the poker community shared concern and have sent positive wishes to him and his family.

Sexton is one of the most successful pros on and off the felt. He is better known for his promotions of various poker events and services. He often jokes that he majored in poker because he played very frequently in college. This is the kind of humour that has made him one of the most beloved persons in the poker industry.

In 2009, Sexton was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame and has been one of the game’s top ambassadors for decades. The Indiana native was part of the initial team that created the PartyPoker site in 2001. He left the company a couple of years later but returned as an executive in 2017. Sexton won the World Poker Tour Montreal Main Event in November 2016, besting a field of 648 entries to win the $317,896 first prize. It was his third time reaching a WPT final table and his first WPT victory. He has also won a $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo WSOP bracelet in 1989 and has over $6.7 million in live tournament earnings.

He founded the now defunct Tournament of Champions of Poker, which only let tournament winners from the previous year compete. In early 2009, Sexton along with Jan Fisher, Linda Johnson and Lisa Tenner, created PokerGives.org, a nonprofit organization that offers poker players an easier way to give to charity. People across the poker community are hoping for a miracle and we wish him the best of luck during this time. For more updates on Mike Sexton and other poker news, keep reading  GutshotMagazine.com
