Meiling wins Manila MegaStack 12; Indians finish 3rd, 4th

Most of us have our focus fixed on the 50th anniversary celebrations of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas. However, there are some players who are travelling to other parts of the world to play poker during this time, in search of high-value tournaments and of course big live scores.

Recently, Manila MegaStack 12 took place in PokerStars LIVE in Okada Manila Hotel and Casino, where a 26-tournament series came to an end a few days ago. The Main Event is always the biggest attractions of most live poker series and it was here too, as 485 players registered to the PHP 33,000 Main Event that had a massive PHP 10 Million GTD prize pool.

The 2-day event came to an end with Manila MegaStack crowning its first ever female champion in Lisa Tan Meiling. The female player from Singapore went down into the history books and also collected PHP 3,186,000 (~INR 42.62 Lakh) as the first-place cash prize, along with a package trip to APPT Manila.

The event had a prize pool of PHP 13,972,365 and it was distributed between the top 59 places. There was a large Indian contingent present at the venue from which Ankit Jajodia was the first to cash, finishing 42nd for PHP 69,500 (~INR 93,000). Prior to this, Jadodia took the Kickoff Event for PHP 632,700 (~INR 8.44 Lakh) and then also the Freezeout Hyper Turbo for PHP 74,605 (~INR 1 Lakh).

However, the Indian players who scored big on the final day of the Main Event were Kunal Jain and Mani Singh. Jain finished 3rd in the tournament for a pay-out of PHP 1,179,000 (~INR 15.77 Lakh) while Singh busted slightly before him in 4th place for PHP 888,000 (~INR 11.87 Lakh).

Talking about the experience, Singh said, “On Day 1A, I got busted in Level 11, button opened 2.2x and on BB I had AKo, I jammed 25 BBs and got a call from button with JJ. This was my second bullet in the ME. It was a slow start for me; slowly and steadily, I kept on building my stack and tried to maintain average stack. At one time when Day 1B ended, I got two double ups but at the bubble, I lost a lot of chips. However, on Day 2, when 32 players were left, I was down to 4BBs and from there it was a tough grind. I picked the right spots and somehow managed to keep 10-15 BBs till FT. Winner of ME was leading from the starting and when FT started, I was the shortest stack. I pre-flop jammed AK off from CO and button snapped with TT, flop was QJ7 turn 9 river Q.”
