Man armed with gun threatens casino staff in Coventry city


An unknown man has been charged for allegedly threatening a staff at a casino on Hertford Street in Coventry city centre. The police confirmed that he was trying to force his way into the office of the casino on Friday afternoon. 

The accused that threatened the casino staff was armed with a gun. While the man was seen exiting the casino without any weapons, the staff of the casino claim that he had a gun with him and that he threatened a woman, one among them. The police officers confirmed that they spotted a person at around 5:30 in the evening, matching the description of the man that terrorized awhile ago at the casino.

A spokesperson from West Midlands Police today said that the man has been identified as Lloyd Clare, 37 from Warwick Road, Coventry. He has been charged with attempted robbery and possession of cannabis. He will be forwarded to appear before Coventry Magistrates’ Court. With the ongoing pandemic. casinos around the world have been shut. In the UK, casinos have been asked to reopen only after 15 August, easing of lockdown has been stalled due to the rise in coronavirus cases. The casinos have been taking extreme precautions and have been proactive in containing the virus for the safety of their staff and customers.

Home to more than  50 casinos, Coventry has a huge population that is employed because of these casinos.  The casino sector employs more than 14K people across the UK and a further 4K in the supply chain. According to the industry standards body ,The Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) mentions that the Government’s last-minute reversal of plans has not been dealt well.  Casinos have spent weeks and have invested millions of pounds to ensure their premises are COVID secure, by implementing measures such as plexiglass screens, sanitization equipment, and sophisticated systems, as well as strict social distancing norms and hygiene protocols.
