Kristen Bicknell Ships APPT Macau High Roller

The 2018 Asia Pacific Poker Tour Macau kicked off on 14th March and is scheduled to take place till 25th March. The festivities have been taking place at the PokerStars Live poker room in Macau, and after reporting the news of the opening event being taken down by Ho Lun Pang, we have news of another big APPT tournament win.

After the kickoff event, the APPT High Roller was Event #2 of this major tournament series and it was Canada’s Kristen Bicknell who shipped the event, beating a field of 117 entries. The HKD 80,000 ($10,200) buy-in event generated a prizepool of just over $1.1 million and Bicknell received the top prize of HKD 2,192,000 ($279,549) for this win. What’s impressive is that this is her debut in Macau!

The 2017 Female Player of the Year and partypoker Pro, Bicknell, recorded the second largest win of her live poker career, following the $290,768 she earned for shipping a Bounty event at the 2016 World Series of Poker. She also became the first ever female APPT High Roller champion, beating David Peters, the 2016 Global Poker Index Player of the Year, in heads up. Her trip sixes proved to be better than his 9-pair in what became the last hand of the tournament.

This win took her total live poker earnings past the $1.5 million mark and she will only be looking to get better from here. She beat a handful of male poker pros, including the likes of Luc Greenwood, Rainer Kempe, Jan-Eric Schwippert and others, who have millions of dollars in poker earnings among them, including much more experience than Bicknell.

“What drives me is definitely competition, I’m just always trying to get better as a player. I want to do well to represent women in poker, and that drives me a lot. It kind of motivates me to compete with all the guys. And showing that, you know, women are welcome in this industry, I think is a big step; the more women that play and do well it should hopefully turn things around. Women are crushing this year; it’s pretty insane,” said Bicknell after this win.

Final results:

  1. Kristen Bicknell – HKD 2,192,000 ($279,549)
  2. David Peters – HKD 1,480,160
  3. Klaus Pautrot – HKD 963,000
  4. Felix Daniel Schulze – HKD 797,000
  5. Hong Zhu – HKD 643,000
  6. Matthew Moss – HKD 507,000
  7. Yong Wang – HKD 388,000
  8. Allan Bedwick – HKD 292,000
  9. Alex Lindop – HKD 218,000
