For the Indian poker industry, all the attention is currently on the Deltin Poker Tournament (DPT) which kicked off yesterday on the Deltin Royale in Goa. 4 tournaments have been scheduled for this, the last DPT series of the year, and the first one began yesterday – DPT INR 15k Deep Dive Event.
A fantastic response was achieved in the opening event, with 326 entries (269 unique) entries registering to the tournament and Day 1 ending with 16 survivors left. The day ended with Aditthiyya SB and Jasven Saigal in the lead and a massive INR 10,77,000 set aside for the winner.
During the course of the day, Aditthiyya busted his stack against Eka Vedantham, with his Ah 8d losing to Vedantham’s pocket Jacks and the board of 2s 3c 4c Kd Qc not providing any further assistance. He has eliminated in 5th place but took home a decent prize of INR 2.8 lakh.
Saigal on the other hand, is a well-known poker pro, who continued to dominate and made his way past the final table and into heads-up of the opening event. He was up against Vedantham and this turned out to be a battle between two very good and experienced poker players.
Vedantham had the lead at the start of the battle but Saigal caught up and eventually took down the title and the prize of nearly INR 11 lakh. In the final hand, Vedantham had pocket Kings. Saigal called his bet with A 7, but the board opened 7 5 2 7 10, giving Saigal a set of threes.
