‘J6off’ wins The Summit; denies Akkina another big victory

Just one night back, well-known player Phanindra Akkina shipped the Destiny tournament on Spartan to become the final entrant into the Finale SnG, where 10 players will battle it out for the INR 10 lakh package trip to Europe. Yesterday, he found himself so close to taking down another major online poker title, this time on PokerBaazi.

He also participated in The Summit MonsterStack Turbo INR 10 lakh GTD last night, where a total of 182 entries joined the INR 8,250 buy-in tournament. The top 17 finishes were paid out a minimum cash prize of INR 17,300 and there were a lot of good players finishing in the money too.

Ever since the launch of their new interface and rewards system, PokerBaazi featured tournaments have been doing pretty well. After a very successful PokerBaazi Premier League (PPL), the success continued as yesterday’s tournament saw an inflated prize pool of INR 13.65 lakh.

Akshay Nasa aka ‘sherlock52’ was one of those players who ran deep in the tournament, finishing in 9th place. Nasa was awarded INR 34k and the intensity increased as the tournament went deeper, eventually ending at 2:35am this morning. Kartik Ved aka ‘TheInternetKid’ finished in third place for INR 1,63,800 after also finishing second in The Flash on Spartan.

Heads-up took place between ‘J6off’ and Phanindra Akkina aka ‘phanindra’, with the latter looking to make two consecutive online victories in two nights. However, J6off ended victorious on the night, shipping the tournament and taking home INR 3,27,600 for first place, while Akkina took away INR 2,32,050 for finishing second.

Gutshot caught up with Akkina and he told us about the tournament, saying, “It was a pretty solid Final Table with tough opponents like Kartik Ved and Anuj Kumar. The stacks were shallow, and it was a waiting game till the short stacks busted. I was fortunate enough to finish second.”
