Hello folks! It is the first of November and the most anticipated heads-up grudge match between the only two time WSOP Player of the Year Daniel Negreanu and retired poker pro Doug Polk.
The two have been nudging each other on twitter since the past few days. It all began with Polk tweeting, “Alright I’m sick of the run around,” tweet. “Does anyone know how to get in touch with @RealKidPoker so we can actually schedule this match. He tweets at me once in awhile and then goes silent. Its been 2 months and I’m ready to fucking battle. Let’s work out some details.” Negreanu responded with a sleeky, “Well this tweet is awkward. You all riled up eh!” He further said, “All that’s left is waiting on a final legal opinion to see what options are available. Nov 1st could work. Feel better?”
Well this tweet is awkward. You all riled up eh!
You have been talking to Mori and Brent no? I have and they said they spoke with you.
All that’s left is waiting on a final legal opinion to see what options are available.
Nov 1st could work. Feel better?

Two months after the initial confirmation, the match is all set to begin today. Based on a drawn-out exchange of Tweets between the two players, these are the basic established rules of the grudge match:
Rule No 1: The match will be played on two $200/$400 heads-up no-limit hold’em tables at a time. Polk had initially argued for more tables.
Rule No 2: The match will be played on WSOP.com. This was followed by an argument when Negreanu insisted that the match should be played on GGPoker, where he’s a sponsored pro, but Polk countered that by talking about its authorization in Nevada.
Rule No: Officially, the match will be 12,500 hands, with a 12,500-hand extension option for the losing player. This is a roundabout way of stating that it’s actually a 25,000-hand match, with an option for the losing player to buy out at the halfway point.
Rule No 4: No preflop charts, heads-up displays (HUDs) or hand trackers may be used. Polk had argued for their inclusion.
Rule No 5: The players will show hole cards for a portion of the match at the PokerGo studio, which will broadcast some of the match. Negreanu is a minority owner in PokerCentral, the parent company of PokerGO.
These are just a few basic poker rules, but there could a lot more in store. Keep an eye on GutshotMagazine.com to know more about the match!
