Is CS:GO The Best Esports Title Ever?

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) is a multiplayer first-person shooter video game. Released in 2014, the game was the fourth installment to the Counter-Strike series. The franchise itself has developed a massive fan following among gamers due to the game’s enjoyable gameplay and content. Developed by Valve and Hidden Path Entertainment, CS:GO is among the most played games in the world today.

There are two teams in the game, Terrorists and Counter-Terrorists. These opposing teams are pitted against each other. The objectives are different depending upon the game mode that players opt for. One of the most frequently played modes is where the Terrorists either plant a bomb and the Counter-Terrorist team needs to stop them. There are a total of eight modes that players can choose from.

It has managed to draw in around 11 million players monthly since its release and is a widely played game on the Steam platform. In 2018, the game adopted a free-to-play model, where most of its revenue would come from cosmetic items. The phenomenal success of CS:GO has even resulted in the game being welcomed to the esports scene.

The CS:GO title in esports competitions around the world has helped the game become even more popular. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Major Championships or Majors is an official esports tournament hosted by Valve. The first competition was held in Sweden in 2013 and since then has grown exponentially.

Among esports enthusiasts and renowned gamers, the Major is one of the most prestigious esports tournaments. Currently, team Astralis are the defending champions with four Major titles under their belt. With esports steadily rising to become one of the top sporting events in the world, CS:GO is already ahead of the curve.
